Ronald King Murray

Members who attended the AGM will have heard the sad news of the passing of our last Honorary member, Ronald King Murray, latterly Lord Advocate. An obituary of his life from the Telegraph is here (opens in new window) (though the Telegraph have us as the ‘Royal’ Corinthian yacht club. I think not).

Robin Fowler recalled for the meeting how Lord King had come to our aid in some of our darkest days in the early 70s (an existential crisis as we now call it).

We hope to have a fuller appreciation of Ronald King Murray in the upcoming edition of Fairwind.

Cruise in Company – Inchkeith Harbour Sunday 14th August 2016

Destination Inchkeith Harbour– H.W. 1225hrs (B.S.T.)

For the fourth and final in our series of ‘Cruise in Company’ events the proposal is to head to Inchkeith Harbour. The tides are still ‘neepie’ (range 2.6m) and wind forecast is for light westerlies (7 – 9 kts). Getting there should be easy sail or motor sail (trail your mackerel lines!) but looks like it will be an iron spinnaker home. Once in the harbour berthing is likely to be to raft up – similar to the arrangement we had at Burntisland.

 Meet at Granton on the pontoon at 11.00am

Enjoy your picnic lunch and refreshment while rafted up with other club boats and for the more energetic – a wee dawnder up to Inchkeith Lighthouse might be in order.

Enjoyable motor/sail-in-company back to Granton aiming to leaving the island around 2.00pm

Everyone encouraged to join in the cruise including families, children, dogs and dinghies!

Fairwind is Back!

Many thanks to John Hunter, our new Fairwind Editor for getting out a long overdue new edition of Fairwind, the club’s (sometimes) quarterly newsletter. Those of you who have visited the Bell Block recently will have seen that a number of copies have been made available on old-fashioned print media.

Lift in 2016

It was a damp and cold start to the day, but it soon ‘came away nice.’ And despite a very low tide mid-morning, it all went without a hitch. Thanks as ever to our indefatigable harbour secretary George Mackay, and of course to the excellent tutelage provided by Lachie. Here’s a selection of photos from the day.
