Winter Talk at RFYC

In conjunction with RFYC (at the RFYC clubhouse on Middle Pier):

Wednesday 25th March, 19:00 – 21:30. So not really Top Gun at all! – Ian Abson


Ian is a new RFYC member and will share an insight into military flying as a navigator from helicopters and slow to fast jets. This is a collection of amusing stories, photos and the odd video from Ian’s 37.5 year career flying in the Royal Navy then the RAF, up to his retirement last summer. It should be entertaining for all, especially those who may not know much about military flying and perhaps have a glorified image of it (he blames the pilots for that!)!

Pole Star – Anstruther running aground, followed by excellent seamanship getting home.

NOTE: It should be recorded that the grounding resulted from having selflessly spent 40+ precious ebbing-tide minutes trying to make another FCYC boat seaworthy, till unfortunately it was too late, and a further three hours were then lost aground.!!

FCYC Christmas Party 2025

Ahoy Corinthians!

The count-down has begun for the eagerly awaited FCYC Christmas Party and Prizegiving! 

6:30pm (for a 7pm start) on Saturday 6th December at Trinity Bowling Club, 

Lomond Road, Edinburgh 

After the Prizegiving there will be a raffle, food, a quizz, and our ever-popular FCYC Christmas Song. Please bring cash for the raffle and cash / card for the bar, which is open until 11pm. Let us know if you have any food allergies or dietary requirements by 23rd November. 

The Photo Competition is now open for entries – please send us your photos by email by the end of this month – the winner will be announced at the Party so get your entries in.

If you can donate raffle prizes, please let us know. Bring it along on the night (e.g. vouchers, bottles, biscuits and chocolates). Nothing out of date, unless it’s retro or vintage!

As in previous years, we are looking for nominations for the following prizes:

  • Wooden Spoon, awarded for the best misadventure – with details, please
  • Mechanical Miracle Award – the more ingenious or unconventional bodge the better!
