2023 Sailing Season Programme Meeting

It’s time now to think about the coming season’s sailing programme. Last year’s pre-season meeting helped me a lot to set up the programme, which I hope you all enjoyed. For this reason, I would like to hold another meeting this year to see how you felt it went and what changes you might like to make to improve it.

Items I would like to discuss, include:
Long vs. short races
Length of series races
Race courses
Race Officer duties
Publishing of results and handicap adjustments
Wednesday evening coaching sessions
WhatsApp group communications
Joint RFYC/FCYC events
Sailing on Coronation day
Cruising in Company programme

To this end, I’ll be hosting a gathering in the Bell Block on Saturday 21st January at 11:00a.m to which you are all invited. The more of you who can manage it, the better the feedback. I hope to see as many of you there as possible.

ROYAL FORTH FESTIVAL SERIES

All Corinthians are invited to join Royal Forth cruisers in their Festival Series
This event is a new venture. The two day event with racing on each evening will be tailored towards encouraging cruiser boats to take part.

When?
On the evenings of Thursday 18 TH and Friday 19 TH August 2022
There will be a briefing in the Royal Forth Yacht club at 18:00hrs. First race start at 19.00hrs with a time limit of an hour and an extension of 20minutes if any yacht finishes within the time limit.
Any yacht sailing in the vicinity of the start line on these dates will be accepted as both a participating yacht and one who will comply with RFYC NoR and SI’s found on the RFYC Website.

Where?
In the vicinity of Wardie Bay.

What Format Will The Races Take?
For about one hour each evening, the race will be a simple course around three or four yellow RFYC racing marks determined on the evening depending on the wind direction and strength. The Courses will probably be taken from the FCYC Friday White Sail course charts and will be average lap. (you just keep sailing round and round the course until it is stopped {Shortened by flying Code flag ‘S’ from the committee boat}).

What If No Or Little Racing Experience?
The emphasis for the Festival Series is for enjoying some competitive sailing in a very user-friendly environment.
A full briefing will be undertaken at 18:00hrs prior to each race. This will include explaining the simple race starting procedure including a description of the flags used to start each class, basic rules
and the course to be sailed. A course chart will be provided.
All competitors will be taken by water taxi to their yachts.
With a separate start time from the regular racing boats and a long start line being laid to provide plenty room for all, the aim is to make the race start as easy as possible.
The cruiser class will be “white sail”, that is~ no spinnaker flying permitted.
The first start scheduled for 19:00hrs will be for day boats and will use FYCA Base handicaps.
The second start scheduled for 19:05hrs will be for Cruisers and will use FYCA handicaps on Thursday.
On Friday a personal handicap will be used calculated from day one’s achieved handicap. This for White Sail only. It is anticipated the calculation will be for a 50% alteration based on Thursday’s achieved handicap.

What Happens After Racing?
On both nights, all crews will be collected by the taxi. The bar will be open for refreshments and food.
There shall be a short prize giving after racing on Friday.
Any Entry Fee?………..NO….
How Do I Enter?
We would appreciate you letting us know if you are coming along for this new venture.
Please e-mail: kennyallan@aol.com as we need at least six boats from FCYC before we can proceed.
Should there be any discrepancy between this invitation and the RFYC Sailing Instructions or individual Race Instructions, the former will take precedence.
