Cruise in Company – Father’s Day Treat!
Sunday 19th June 2016
I can see the pub from here Corinthians . . . . . . . !
Destination Aberdour – H.W. 1511hrs (B.S.T.)
Following on from our last Cruise in Company to Cramond Boat Club the proposal for this Sunday’s outing is to head to Aberdour. Tides are ideal with high tide at 3.00pm which gives all dad’s enough time for a long lie, enjoy breakfast in bed before heading down to the harbour – meeting on the pontoon at 12.30pm
The (current) forecast is predicting light winds from the south which should allow a leisurely down-wind sail to our destination – aiming to arrive around 2.00pm/2.30pm.
Enjoy your picnic lunch and a refreshment while rafted up with other club boats and for the more energetic – a regimental march up to the Cedar Inn where the new owners are waiting for your custom.
Enjoyable sail-in-company back to Granton (or charge your batteries with the engine!) leaving Aberdour around 4.00pm
Everyone encouraged to join in the cruise including families, children, dogs and dinghies!
The Forth Midsummer Challenge
Saturday 18 June sees the third annual ‘Forth Midsummer Challenge’ relay race, where FCYC and Newhaven Coastal Rowing Club pair visiting skiffs and local yachts together in teams for a bit of friendly sport messing about in boats.
At 11:00 there will be a race introduction / safety briefing for coxes, crews (racing and spectator boats) and runners. If you’re not involved in that, we hope you’ll still find time to come down and enjoy the spectacle and the social event afterwards. The approximate timings for the day are –
12:15 – Race starts with yachts leaving Granton in a ‘stern chase’ handicapped start
12:50 – 13:00 Yachts with runners on-board arriving at Newhaven Harbour pontoon
13:00 – 13:20 Runners race back to waiting skiffs at Granton pontoon via waterfront
13:20 – 13:50 Skiffs with runners complete course around bay, returning to Granton
13:50 – 14:10 Runners race back along waterfront to Newhaven and waiting yachts
14:10 – 14:45 Yachts race back to Granton Harbour carrying runners.
Order of completion recorded for setting the starting order for the final leg
15:00 – 15:15 Yachts moor up and runners board skiffs for ‘grand finale’
15:15 – 15:45 Skiffs started in rolling start for the grand finale, finishing within the harbour
15:45 Winning team crosses finish line!
16:00 – 16:30 Skiffs recovered at public slipway
17:00 – 19:30 BBQ, drinks, music and prize giving !!!

Fairwind is Back!
Many thanks to John Hunter, our new Fairwind Editor for getting out a long overdue new edition of Fairwind, the club’s (sometimes) quarterly newsletter. Those of you who have visited the Bell Block recently will have seen that a number of copies have been made available on old-fashioned print media.

For the rest of you, a digital edition is available on our Fairwind page.
PS If you’re using Acrobat you need to look at it in two-page view, having ticked ‘Show cover in two page view’
