Forum Switch Off

The Forum has been disabled due to the large amount of spam which it has attracted over the past few months. One one occasion it had over 700 posts for handbags generated in a single day. Apologies to those who use this service.

Web Cams and Wifi in Granton

Boat yard security on the hard at Granton has gone into warp drive. Owners can now see their boats through a series of web cams which give good visibility on most areas on the yard. The new cameras were installed on the back of a wifi system which was part of the Ramsay/Bell Block improvements. This means that the web is now available in the boat yard to everyone with an iPhone or a PC.

Bell Phone

There is now a phone line into the Bell Block. The phone number is 0131 551 6933. Broadband will also soon be available with wifi access. We'll let you know when this is in place.

Photos

FCYC members have been busy with their cameras again. Take a look at Mark's shots of the harbour, including one with the boats on the hard 'in full winter raiment'. Joe Ramsay nicely documenented the cruise in company to Aberdour this April.

The bar always needs more volunteers so if you can spare two Monday evenings a year for manning the FCYC bar, please get in touch with Graham (grahamcrawford1253@btinternet.com) or George (george.melville@live.com).

Dead Starfish

We're used to seeing shoals of jelly fish washed up on the beach, but dead star fish? A Scotsman article discusses the recent phenomenon, seen in Wardie Bay.

  • The FCYC has a new Council for the year 2011-2012.
  • 'Extinct' Oysters have been discovered in the Forth estuary.
  • A Swordfish has been caught in lobster pots near Alloa.
  • Gregor Shore Trumped. Find out why
  • A letter from old Corinthians Mark and Mhari Rodger in Dubai
  • The Granton Masterplan - plans of Granton harbour.
  • New Leith Marina in Ten Years, described in a Scotsman article.
  • A turtle is seen in Granton harbour
  • Forth and Clyde canal to be extended

The new trial scheme came into operation in 2009 to encourage mid-week sailing at Edinburgh Marina. Overnight rates for the pontoons will be halved for Permit Holders during anticipated quieter periods.

On the less busy weeks all nights, excluding, Fridays and Saturdays, will be discounted at half of the normal cost of an overnight stay. Boats must be clearly named and must display their day permit. See the Pontoon Discounts page for further information.
