About the Club
The Forth Corinthian Yacht Club was founded in 1880 in the Granton Hotel, now known as the Claverhouse TA Centre, in Granton Square and in the Wardie Hotel, Lower Granton Road. It is a self-help club and our motto is "affordable sailing for all". Members are expected to contribute to the functioning of the club by serving on Council, acting as barperson, taking part in work parties etc. We keep costs down by doing most jobs ourselves.
In 1895 the Club removed to premises in Central Edinburgh. In 1968,after an interval of 73 years, the Club returned to Granton Square, this time on the westward side at No. 1 which is the former Harbour Master's House and Office.
The Clubhouse overlooks Granton Harbour and the yacht mooring area and there is a fine view of the Firth of Forth from the windows. The main accomodation has recently been refurbished. The club yard is on the Middle Pier and has toilets and showers. We share the harbour with the Royal Forth Yacht Club and both clubs have their own moorings.
Admission of Members
The club welcomes applications from anyone who sails or who would like to sail on the Forth. Most of our members live within a few miles of the clubhouse. Prospective members are invited to come down to the clubhouse on a Monday evening, talk informally to members and complete an application form. After these have been displayed in the clubhouse for a month, the candidate is interviewed formally by a Flag Officer and the application is considered by the FCYC Council which meets on the first Monday of every month. There is no waiting list and there are usually moorings available.
Visitors
All visiting yachtspeople and H.M. Regular Forces whilst in the Forth are welcome to use the clubhouse as temporary members without payment. The clubhouse is currently open on Monday evenings (7:30-11:00 pm) and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
